Rene Paul Obermeyer

Sioux City

Rene Paul Obermeyer, 73, of Sioux City, passed away at his home on Wednesday, April 14, 2021.

Due to COVID and allowing family time to travel, the Celebration of Life has been postponed to a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Mohr & Becker-Hunt Chapel. Online condolences may be directed to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Rene Paul Obermeyer was born on Aug. 9, 1947 in Sioux City to Paul and Alberta (Ebel) Obermeyer. He graduated from South Sioux City High School in 1966.

In 1967 he married Linda Morton of Sioux City and had his daughters Lynn Obermeyer (John Christensen, now of Sidney, Mont.) and Marcy Obermeyer (Crystal Lake, Ill.).

Rene married Phyllis Sheehan in August 1984, and had his daughter, Noelle Obermeyer (Omaha). On Jan. 16, 1987, was the miraculous birth of triplet babies, Meghan, Eric, and Kyle Obermeyer (now living in Germany, Omaha, and Omaha respectively).

Rene was well known in the Sioux City auto body world. Over the years he worked at Lahann Auto Body Shop, Bort Auto Body, Prestige Collision Center, and Sioux Body Shop. His final years he enjoyed doing special projects with his friends, Les Pederson and Mike Moos. Rene's talent included finishing classic cars, but much preferred to drive a constant "fixer-upper."

Rene was a proud 23-year member of many local AA meetings. In addition to AA, Rene always said that his church was his participation as a warrior of the local Mankind Project and Boys to Men mentoring group. Among these groups Rene was known as a man of service. He will forever be remembered for his mission statement to leave the world a better place through teaching. His constant dedication and powerful, quiet companionship to many will be truly missed.

Rene is survived by all of his children; grandchildren, Danny White of Crystal Lake, Ill., Chad, Stephen, and Sean Christensen of Sidney, Mont.; stepson, Shawn Sullivan (Sue) of Jackson, Neb.; grandchildren, Abby, Alec, and Collin; sisters, Carol Hendricks (Joe) of Larned, Kan., and Birdie Coutts of Wahoo, Neb.; his sister-in-law, Carol Obermeyer of South Sioux City; and brother-in-law, Rick Hansel of Brighton, Colo.

Rene is preceded in death by his beloved parents; brother, Ronald; and sister, Bonnie Hansel.
