Doc Croxell Summoned To Rest

When the life of a person is suddenly cut off and the master of the universe comes to claim his own, we are all made to feel the uncertainty of our earthly existence. Relatives and friends found it hard to realize that "Doc” Croxell had been called from his earthly life. Few realized that he was not enjoying his usual health. His sunny disposition and genial manner made for him many friends. His love for children endeared him to the hearts of many.

Raessler Croxell, youngest son of Charles and Adeline Croxell, was born at Anthon, Iowa, August 13, 1898 and departed from this life on May 14, 1941, and the age of 42 years, 9 months and 1 day.

He was living at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Bert Fullerton, where he was employed at farm labor and where he was busy at work when he was suddenly stricken with the impairment of his physical and mental faculties resulting in an unconsciousness from which he never recovered. The cause of this fatal illness is no doubt tracable to an attack of influenza at a former date from which he had never fully recovered.

At the close of a day's labor “Doc”as he was familiarly called, had gone to the corn crib to sort seed corn preparatory to the planting. While at this task his sudden affliction overtook him, and he was found by his employer, Mr. Fullerton, who at once called medical assistance and an ambulance but his life had departed before the ambulance arrived. This brought a sudden shock to relatives, friends and acquaintances.

He leaves to mourn his passing, his father and step-mother, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Croxell; a sister, Mrs. Iva Boettger of Galva, Iowa; a brother, Iven Croxell of Denison, Iowa; 12 nieces and nephews and a host of relatives and friends. His mother and one brother preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held at the Wilson Hull Funeral Home Saturday afternoon at 2 p. m. with Rev. B. H. Coonradt, minister of the Church of Christ officiating. Mrs. Paul Green and Mrs. Daisy Moore accompanied at the piano by Mrs. Bessie Hatfield, sang "Nearer My God To Thee", “Abide With Me” and “Going Down The Valley.”

Interment was made in the Rock Branch cemetery under the direction of the Wilson-Hull Service.
