WASHTA, Iowa - Alvena Cochran, 82, of Washta died Monday in Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital in Cherokee after a short illness.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in the Church of Christ in Correctionville. The Rev. Tom Steele will officiate. Burial will be in Fairfield Cemetery at Rock Branch under the direction of the Barker funeral Home of Correctionville.

Mrs. Cochran, the former Alvena Roggatz, was born April 5, 1901, at Battle Creek. She moved to the Correctionville community with her parents as a child.

She married George Kirchner Feb. 21, 1917, at Sioux City. They farmed until moving into Correctionville in 1925. He died Nov. 4, 1931. She married Milton Cochran May 30, 1945, at Hancock. They lived in Correctionville, moving to Washta in 1981.

Survivors include her husband; three sons, Harry Kirchner of Quimby, Homer Kirchner of Fort Wayne, Ind. and Wilbur Kirchner of Toledo, Iowa; one daughter, Mrs. Dale (Effie) Riordan of Pierson; one stepson, Lyle Cochran of Willits, Calif.; one brother, Walter of Montivideo, Minn.; four sisters, Mrs. Anna Sands of Holstein, Mrs. Walter (Martha) Handke of Dunlap, Mrs. Elmer (Tillie) Sands of Correctionville and Mrs. Edna Wright of Correctionville; 16 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; six step-grandchildren and 14 step-great-grandchildren.
