Agnes Theresa Caroline Bauer, daughter of H. and Margaret Toedt, was born in Burg, on the Island of Fehmarn, Schleswig, Holstein, Germany, December 9, 1859, as one of twelve children, and departed this life December 31, 1945, at her home, aged 86 years and 22 days.

In her twentieth year she reached America and came to the home of her brother at Walnut, Iowa. She was united in marriage on September 23, 1879, at Harlan, Iowa, to Mr. C.H. Bauer. They engaged in farming and lived in that community until 1884 when they bought a farm two miles north of Pierson which has been her home during the remaining sixty-one years of her life.

To Mr. and Mrs. Bauer were born eleven children, nine of whom survive her. Her husband died October 1, 1903.

The surviving children are Wm. H. Bauer of Anoka, Minnesota; Emma C. Riemenschneider of Sioux City; Adela Harderson of Hinton; Julius J. and Henry C. Bauer of Kingsley, Carl H. and Misses Marie F., Elly A., and Elsa L. Bauer all of Pierson.

She had twenty grandchildren, thirty great grandchildren who mourn her death as does also one brother, John Todd, of Correctionville, a sister, Miss Frieda Toedt of California, numerous more distant relatives and a host of friends.

Mrs. Bauer enjoyed fairly good health all her life, aside from a serious illness ten years ago, and a dangerous siege of pneumonia two years ago. Even in her last sickness she at first stoutly maintained that her condition was not serious.

During the night before her death, she developed a high fever and lapsed into a state of coma for three hours before the end, which came at about ten o'clock a.m. of the last day of the old year.

Funeral services were held last Thursday, January 13. A short devotion at the home at one o'clock was followed by the regular memorial service at Salem Lutheran Church and interment was made in the Pierson cemetery, Pastor A.E. Guetzlaff officiating.
