James A. "Jim" Althaus 1946 - 1994

James A. "Jim" Althaus, 47, formerly of Sioux City, died Sunday, Jan. 30, 1994, at his home in Des Moines of cancer.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Luther Memorial Church in Des Moines. Additional services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Salem Lutheran Church, rural Correctionville, Iowa, with burial in Fairfield Cemetery. Visitation will be after 4 p.m. Wednesday at Hamilton's Funeral Home in Des Moines.

Mr. Althaus. was born in Sioux City and had lived in Des Moines the last 15 years. He was appointed by former Gov. Robert Ray to Employment Appeal Board for the State of Iowa, of which he was a present member. He was a member of Luther Memorial church, International Association of Machinists Union, and former business representative on the Board of Governors for the National Association of Unemployment Insurance Appeal Board.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara of Des Moines; three sons, Alan, Karl and Gavin, all of Des Moines; his father and stepmother, Herbert and Dorothy Althaus of Hinton, Iowa; four brothers, David of Sioux Rapids, Richard of El Cajon, Calif., Gary of Sioux City and Donald of San Antonio, Texas; and a sister, Barbara Fletcher of Kingsley, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Florence Clausen Althaus.

Memorials have been established in his name with Hospice of Central Iowa and Luther Memorial Church building fund.
