Edward “Jake” Fundermann 1937 - 2021

Edward “Jake” Fundermann, age 83, of Anthon, passed away on Friday, April 16, 2021 at the Horn Memorial Hospital of Ida Grove. A funeral service will be held on Monday, April 26, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at the St. John’s Lutheran Church of Battle Creek with Pastor Randall Cormeny officiating. Burial will be held at the St. Paul Lutheran (Midway) Cemetery of Battle Creek. A visitation will be held on Sunday, April 25, 2021 from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at the St. John’s Lutheran Church of Battle Creek.

Edward Fundermann, the son of Theodore and Emma (Benker) Fundermann, was born on May 6th, 1937 at his farmhouse south of Anthon, Iowa. Edward grew up on his family farm south of Anthon and went to school at Miller #2 country school until eighth grade. He was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith at the Lutheran church at Midway. On May 10th, 1959 Edward married Geraldine Eyer at the Lutheran Church in Anthon, Iowa. The couple moved to Litchfield, MN in 1963 where Edward worked at a machine shop, Litchfield Machine Works, until they moved to Battle Creek, Iowa in 1965. Together the couple had six children. The couple later parted ways. Edward worked at Gomaco, Inc. in Ida Grove, Iowa from 1965 to 1983. He then started his own business in Battle Creek until his retirement in 2000. In 2007, Edward moved to his family farm south of Anthon to enjoy the rest of his retirement life with his favorite companion, his dog "Duke".

Edward had several hobbies; he loved to spend time with his kids and grandkids and to socialize with his friends in the coffee shops. He also enjoyed bowling and hunting in his younger years. He was a life member of the NRA and also a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Battle Creek. He became a member of the AA (Alcohol Anonymous) in 1983.

Left to cherish his memories are his children, James (Denise) Fundermann of Battle Creek, Iowa, Timothy "Tim" (Rozz) Fundermann of Moorhead, Iowa, Thomas "Tom" (Jenni) Fundermann of Battle Creek, Iowa, Joan (Rick) Holmes of Van Buren, AR, Patricia "Patti" Fundermann of Clear Lake, Iowa, and Angela "Angie" (Jason) Schiernbeck of Battle Creek, Iowa, and 16 grandchildren, Jason (Brandi) Kirkpatrick, Jill Greave, Jessie (James) Michael, Jon Kirkpatrick, Tad Fundermann, Jakob Fundermann, Chelsey Fundermann, Bobby (fiancé Stephanie) Fundermann, Bryan (special friend Morgan) Fundermann, Abby Fundermann, Colton (Melanie) Vollmer, Kelsi (Robert) Rodriquez, Cody Fundermann, Dawson Schiernbeck, Chace Schiernbeck, and Brody Schiernbeck and 13 Great-Grandchildren, Brayson Kirkpatrick, Cody Greave, Jackson Greave, Adler Armstrong, Jase Armstrong, Eleanor Michael, Sammy Fundermann, Chloe Fundermann, Lenyx Fundermann, Ava Vollmer, Mia Rodriquez and Cruz Rodriquez. He is also survived by his siblings, Frank (Carol) Fundermann, of Red Oak, Iowa, Judy Thompson of Williams, MN, Eileen (Gary) Bumsted of Sioux City, Iowa, and Wayne (special friend Carla) Fundermann of Anthon, Iowa, and many nieces and nephews and extended family members and friends.

Edward was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore J. Fundermann and Emma G. (Benker) Fundermann; siblings, a sister in infancy, John Fundermann, Theodore “T.P.” Fundermann, Pauline Osborne and Paulus "Paul" Fundermann; sisters-in-law, Diane (Umbach) Fundermann and Helen (Putzier) Fundermann; brothers-in-law, Charles Osborne and Duane Thompson and nephews, Bradley Osborne, Douglas Osborne, Randy Fundermann, and Eric Nelsen.
