William E ‘Bill’ Leaverton

Sioux City -- William E “Bill” Leaverton, 78, of Sioux City died Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2021, at a local hospital after a courageous battle with cancer.

Services will be held 11 a.m. Monday at Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City. Burial will be in Westfork Township Cemetery, Climbing Hill. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, masks are required.

William Ernest Leaverton was born on March 19, 1942 in Sioux City, the son of Thomas and Ethel (Johnston) Leaverton. Bill graduated from Central High School in 1960. On Jan. 5, 1980, Bill was united in marriage to Sharen Carrell. Over the years, Bill worked for Klinger Construction Company.

Bill enjoyed fishing, camping and working crossword puzzles. He enjoyed being a small engine mechanic. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Bill is survived by his wife, Sharen; son, Tom (Laura) Sanderson of Sioux City; four daughters, Kimberly (Greg England) Leaverton of Sioux City, Sheri (Brian Struck) Capron of Anthon, Keri (Frank) Tope of Sioux City, and Christina (Jim) LaCroix of Sioux City; 20 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; his brother, Jerry Leaverton of Merrill; and sister-in-laws, Julie Leaverton of LeMars, and Bette Harris of Arkansas; special niece, Lana Leaverton; many nieces and nephews; and his faithful companion “Sweets.”

He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Travis Gutierrez; a great-granddaughter, Arabella Cobbs; brothers, Tom and Dick Leaverton; and a sister, Betty Jepsen.
