Mrs. J. C. (Susie E.) Clay, 86, a resident of Sioux City for 67 years, died Monday morning in the home of a daughter, Mrs. H. C. Reed, 1101 W. Fifth street, following an extended illness.

She was born in Harrison Valley, Potter county, Pa., January 29, 1858 She went westward with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Snyder, in the spring of 1865 and located in Boone, at that time the end of the railroad. The family later homesteaded, about 1867, where Holly Springs now stands.

She was married July 20, 1873, to Joseph C. Clay in Holly Springs. He died August 14, 1928. She was a member of Whitfield Methodist church, the Three Score club, the Women's Society of Christian Service; the Girls of 68, and the Sunshine league.

Surviving is another daughter, Louise Clay, also of Sioux City; two sisters, Mrs. Catherine Bayne of Buffalo, Okla., and Mrs. Ella M. Tyler of Salem, Ore.

The funeral will be held at 1:30 p. m. Wednesday in Whitfield Methodist church. Rev. Harry Burns will officiate and interment will be in Floyd cemetery. The W Harry Christy funeral home is directing arrangements.

Pallbearers will be Joseph H. Bream, E. S. Taft, E. S. Tagg, Walter Sloan, Harry Work and Louis Hugron.
