CUSHING YOUTH DIES IN CRASH

Thrown Through Windshield of Car -Two Others-Hurt

Alta, Iowa -- Norman D. Hansen, 19, of Cushing, was killed early Sunday when he was thrown through the windshield of an automobile after it struck a bridge a mile east of Hanover and six miles south of here.

Coroner John J. Taylor of Storm Lake said the youth's Jugular vein was cut, but he was able to get into the car before he suddenly collapsed and died.

Verdeen Sindt of near Washta, who was driving, said he turned to the edge of the road to allow another car to pass, the coroner said. Glare in his rear view mirror from the headlights of a car behind him prevented Sindt from seeing the bridge in time to avoid it completely and the rear of the automobile struck it, Taylor said. The car did not overturn.

Sindt suffered scalp lacerations and Miss Betty Brown of Galva suffered laceration of the knee. They received treatment at a hospital here and were dismissed later in the day.

Hansen, Sindt, Miss Brown and two other young persons were returning home from a dance at Storm Lake. The other two were not injured, the coroner said.
