DEATH CLAIMS OLD SETTLER

Justus Deist, Resident in County 51 years, Passes Away

Justus Deist, 84, a native of Germany who had lived in Woodbury county since 1884, died Sunday night at his home, 1300 South Glass street, after a short sickness.

After coming to the United States, Mr. Deist and his wife, whom he married in Germany, lived in Ohio and came to Woodbury county from there. They lived near Holly Spring, until 1918, when he and Mrs. Deist came to Sioux City. Mrs. Deist preceded him in death in 1920.

Surviving are four sons, William of Smithwick, S, D., and Charles, Louis and Jake Deist of Hornick, and four daughters, Mrs. Anna Hughes, Mrs. Dena Kemmish and Miss Lusetta Deist of Sioux City, and Mrs. Rose Smith of Hornick.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 o'clock this afternoon at St John Evangelical in German City. Rev. Mr. Rinderknecht, minister of that church will officiate. Burial will be in Willow township cemetery near Holly Springs. The Becker funeral home of Hornick will direct the arrangements.
