Former County Supervisor Dies

Frank B. Burns, 84, a former member of the Woodbury county board of supervisors and active in republican party affairs, died Friday night at his farm home north of Hornick, la., after being stricken in Des Moines where he had gone to attend the state G. O. P. convention.

Mr. Burns had been in ill health for the last year. He became ill soon after his arrival in Des Moines.

Funeral services will be at 2 p. m. Tuesday at the Methodist church at Hornick. Rev. Lyle Leeder will officiate. Burial will be in the Holly Springs cemetery under direction of the W. Harry Christy funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Ralph Burns, Gordon Tevis, Clyde Rose, Bruce Haddock. Keith Haddock and James Chilton.

Mr. Burns was born October 7, 1867 at Hesper, la. and came to Woodbury county in 1871. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Lemuel Burns. He had resided on the same farm on Boulevard road for the last 40 years.

Mr. Burns married Effie Maude Hawkins October 12, 1898, at Fonda, la. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a dinner and reception at their home in October 1948.

Mr. Burns served as a supervisor from 1931 to 1934 and at the time of his death was a township committeeman. He was active in the establishment of the Farmers elevator at Hornick, the telephone company there and the organization of the Holly Springs, consolidated school. He was a member of the Modern Woodmen.
