CHARLES PARKHILL

Holly Springs, Iowa-- Charles "Chuck" Parkhill, 69, of Holly Springs died Monday in a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in St. John's Evangelical Church in German City. The Rev. Walter Enstrom will officiate. Burial will be in Willow Township Cemetery at Holly Springs. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. in Walter Funeral Home in Mapleton.

Mr. Parkhill was born July 2, 1917, in Oto and graduated from Oto High School in 1936. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He was shot down over Germany and was a POW for 18 months in Germany. He received two Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart. He married Joyce Beebe Aug. 12, 1945, in German City. He was in partnership with his father-in-law, operating Beebe and Parkhill Implement in Holly Springs. He was a school bus driver for Holly Springs and Hornick for 20 years.

Mr. Parkhill was a member of St. John's Evangelical Church, Hindman-Steel Post of 492, American Legion, of Hornick, VFW of Sioux City, and a life member of POW and DAV. He was a member of the Caterpiller Club.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Dennis (Bonnie) Boyle of Danbury and Roxann Harder of Houston, Texas; a brother, Wilbur of Anthon; two sisters, Mrs. Chester (Evelyn) Claus of Smithland and Mrs. Gordon (Delia) Lane of Ticonic and three grandchildren.
