Harold graduated from Linn Grove Consolidated School in 1953. He then moved to Sioux City and worked for the Livestock National Bank from 1953 to 1957 until he was drafted into the U.S. Army. After retirement, Harold worked part-time doing books for Robert Seff at Green Gables Restaurant and Norbert Bravo at The Legend Restaurant.

Harold and April began spending their winters in Apache Junction, Ariz., and later Sun City West, making Sun City West their permanent residence in 2015.

Harold was a member of Morningside Lutheran Church in Sioux City for over 50 years where he served as an usher. He then became a member of Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Sun City West.
