SIOUX CITY - Norman Oscar Kronick, 68, of Sioux City passed away Friday, April 17, 2009, at his residence.

There will be a Masonic service and memorial service beginning at 7 p.m. Monday at the Abu Bekr Shrine Temple, with Chaplain Neil Peck and Mr. A. Frank Baron officiating. Norm was born Dec. 5, 1940, in Chicago, Ill. He moved to Sioux City when he was adopted by Soll and Sylvia (Jacobson) Kronick. Norm attended Sioux City Schools and graduated from Central High School. During the summers, he attended Shattuck Military School in Faribault, Minn. He went to Morningside College while working for his father's businesses, Nu-Way Sporting Goods, Dura Pak Corp., Custom Bowling & Golf Supply and Atlas Instrument Co. He married Rosie Schulte on April 22, 2000.

In 1970, Norm joined the Sioux City Police Department. He co-founded the Hawkeye K-9 Club. He loved his career working with K-9 units for 19 years and especially working with Siouxland law enforcement agencies. He enjoyed working with his fellow officers on all types of calls. Norm was known as a "Legend" to the Sioux City Police Department. Norm left the department and still continued going to police association meetings and conventions. After retiring, he also worked with the D.A.R.E. Program.

Then Norm went to work with Dakota Dunes Development as its safety and security director. He always stated that he loved his work there with the employees and contractors and watching over the 1,500 acres of land. He had stated it was really different doing security and watching over his party grounds (the sand dunes). Norm retired from Dakota Dunes after 14 years. He then purchased Fisherman Bait & Tackle in South Sioux City and worked there until the time of his death.

He had served as president of the Tri-State Peace Officers for Iowa, Minnesota and South Dakota. He was a member of the United States K-9 Association and the South Dakota Emergency Management (F.E.M.A.). He was also a member of the Elks Club, Missouri River Boat Club, Iowa Chiefs of Police, Iowa State Police Association and Sioux City Police Association. Norm was a 44-year member of the Abu Bekr Shrine Temple, Sioux City Consistory and Elk Point Masonic Lodge 3 A.F.& A.M. He served on the board of the Sioux City Jewish Cemetery Association and was a member of the Noon Lions Club.

He was a beloved husband and father, who will be missed forever by his wife, Rosie of Sioux City; six children including his son, Matthew Kronick and his fiancee, Brooke Miller of Sioux City; 18 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother, Larry Kronick and his wife, Debbie of Omaha; nieces and nephew, Amanda, Rick and Shara. Norm is also survived by Jim Rocklin and his wife, Fern, who grew up with Norm and was like a brother to him. He will also be missed by his brothers of the Masonic Lodge and Police Officers of the Tri-State Area.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Soll and Sylvia (Jacobson) Kronick; grandparents; and a son-in-law, Dr. Bradley Schmidt.
