D. Orval Jorgensen

SIOUX CITY - D. Orval Jorgensen, 92, of Sioux City passed away Monday, May 11, 2009, at his residence.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at New Life Lutheran Church, First and Baker streets, Sergeant Bluff, with the Rev. Mark Groves officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Orval Jorgensen was born April 6, 1917, in Sioux City, to Claus and Marie (Christensen) Jorgensen. He attended Sioux City schools. He was employed by Burke and Fullerton Lumberyard and Wilson Trailer. He later retired from Schoenemann Lumber Company.

He was married to Doris LeClair on Sept. 15, 1944, in Sioux City. She preceded him in death on Dec. 10, 1998, in Sioux City.

He was a member of New Life Lutheran Church. He enjoyed horses, bowling, Twins baseball and watching football. He enjoyed his Friday morning breakfast and frequenting Burger King and McDonald's. He enjoyed a hard day's work and tinkering with his tractor. He will be fondly remembered for his flirting.

He is survived by his son, Stephen Jorgensen of Sioux City; a son, Philip (Denise) Jorgensen of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; a daughter, Suzanne (Mark) Schmitt of Sergeant Bluff; a son, John (Mary) Jorgensen of Sioux City; a son, Randy (Mary) Jorgensen of Sioux City; a daughter, Jeanne (Bret) Fritch of Omaha; 25 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; four brothers; two sisters; and a grandson.
