SIOUX CITY - Fred F. Casper, 89, formerly of Sioux City, was called to heaven on Sunday, Feb. 1, 2009, at Evergreen Care Center at the Baptist Village of Owasso, Okla., following a lengthy illness.

Memorial services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 16, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Sioux City. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to service time. services and interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City. Arrangements and services were entrusted to Mowery Funeral Service of Owasso.www.moweryfs.com.

Fred was born to Peter and Emma (Ludwig) Casper on June 7, 1919, in Hinton, Iowa. He was the third of seven children. He was baptized on July 27, 1919, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hinton and confirmed into the Lutheran faith on April 14, 1935. He was a veteran of the armed forces having served his country honorably with the U.S. Army Air Corp during World War II.

Fred married Louise E. Stoltze on Jan. 7, 1942. They had one son and adopted two boys and a girl. They also fostered several other children throughout the years. Fred was a truck driver for 40 years and then a school bus driver for 10 years. He had a janitorial service for several years after he retired from truck driving. He enjoyed farming and operating his Ford tractor and Ford Bronco snowplow. He was also an avid St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan.

Loving family members include three sons, David Casper of Victorville, Calif., Richard Casper and his wife, Carolyn of Owasso, Okla., and Steve Casper and his wife, Diane of Sioux City; a daughter, Mae and her husband, George Mech of Davenport, Iowa; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two great -great-grandchildren; a sister, Anita and her husband, Phillip Neri of Sioux City; and many nieces, nephews, and several great nieces and great nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Louise; two brothers; three sisters; and a granddaughter, Sara.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made in memory of Fred F. Casper to Disabled American Veterans, Alzheimer's Association, Lutheran Hour Ministries or the American Cancer Society.
