Matthew D. Gard

SIOUX CITY - Matthew D. Gard, 41, of Sioux City died unexpectedly Sunday, May 3, 2009, at a Sioux City hospital after being stricken at home.

A celebration of life service will be 2 p.m. Friday at the Marina Inn and Conference Center in South Sioux City, with Chaplain Larry Adler of Tyson Fresh Foods officiating. A time of fellowship and visitation will follow the service. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service in Sergeant Bluff.

Matthew D. Gard was born March 28, 1968, in Bethesda, Md., the son of Robert and Judy (Richardson) Gard. The family moved to the Houston, Texas area when he was one year old and he attended school there. He graduated from the University of North Texas with a degree in computer science.

He was united in marriage with Malia Mullins. He worked as a computer system analyst for Tyson Foods in Dakota City.

He was a very inventive person, who had two different patents and was always a very creative and curious person. He was very passionate about life and living it to it's fullest. He loved music and was especially fond of classical guitar music.

Survivors include his wife, Malia; his daughter, Bobbie Elizabeth; his father, Robert of Sand Springs, Okla.; a brother, Cmdr. Michael Gard and his wife, Nicole of Albuquerque, .N.M.; and numerous friends and relatives. '

He was preceded in death by his mother, Judy.
