Douglas 'Doug' Lewis

SIOUX CITY - Douglas "Doug" Addison Lewis, 61, of Sioux City passed away on Friday, July 17, 2009, arter a courageous battle with cancer. Abiding by his wishes, he passed away peacefully at home with his wife by his side.

A celebration of life service will be 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Mark Groves officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will begin 4 p.m. Monday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Doug was born July 5, 1948, in Sioux City, the son of Donald A. and Lucille F. (Ford) Lewis. In 1966, he graduated from East High School. Doug enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and served with the 1st Marine Division in the Vietnam Conflict. He had been a life member of the VFW since 1973.

Doug was a dedicated employee with the city of Sioux City for over 34 years as a parking and meter operations supervisor for the parking division. On Aug. 22, 1981, Doug and Barbara J. Choquette rang the church bell at the Little Brown Church in the Vale in Nashau, Iowa, to start their life together. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

With sincere compassion and commitment, Doug was always willing to help someone in need. By offering his many talents, word of wisdom and personal devotion, he touched many lives. His love for the great outdoors was evident by his enjoyment of boating, bicycling and jogging. He also enjoyed dabbling with computers as well as being an avid collector of Hawaiian shirts. He dearly loved his family and friends and knew the importance of laughter and fun. Doug's great spirit and generous heart will be greatly missed.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife, Barb and his "feathered friend," Murri; his mother-in-law, Lois Choquette; sister-in-law, Julie (Jerry) Peterson; brothers-in-law, Ron (Ann) Choquette and Mike (Mary) Choquette; Lake Family (more commonly known as "the hood"); as well as aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Doug was greeted at heaven's gate by his mother and father, Lucille and Donald Lewis; father-in-law, Roland Choquette; as well as his "feathered friends," Boggie and Cody.

Pallbearers will be Jim Norton, Mark Gannon, Nels Horstman, Kevin Snider, Dave Treimer, Phil Snyder, Bryan Mulder and Ken Shaull.
