Ella I. Davidson

SIOUX CITY - Ella I. Davidson, 95, of Sioux City, briefly of Des Moines, passed away Sunday, July 12, 2009, at Indian Hills Nursing and Rehab Center.

Services will be l p.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with the Rev. Craig Collison officiating. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with a Catholic Daughters of America rosary at 4 p.m., the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Ella was born Dec. 16, 1913, in Bloomfield, Neb., the daughter of Amos and Sadie Trenhafle. She received her early education in the rural schools there. She graduated from high school in 1933, in Bloomfield. She came to Sioux City in 1947, where she was employed in domestic work. She later ran her own day care for 25 years.

She married Laurence John Davidson at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Sioux City in June 1948. Retiring in 1975, the couple spent several winters in Texas, enjoying their retirement years until death took her husband in July 1983. She remained in the home on Douglas Street in Sioux City. At that time, her home parish was Cathedral.

In 1992, she sold the home and moved to Centennial Manor in Sioux City and was in the St. Boniface parish. In 1995, she moved to Des Moines to be near her son and family, residing at the Plaza Manor Apartments. Her parish was St. Pius X.

She was a Catholic Daughter and member of Confraternity while residing in the Cathedral parish district. She also was a member of the Senior Citizen Club and the one downtown, the Rosary Society at St. Boniface, a Catholic Daughters of America and Catholic Women's League. She continued with Catholic Daughters in Des Moines. She was also a member of the 50 plus Club and she did volunteer work.

She is survived by her son, David (Paula) Davidson of Des Moines; a daughter, Bonnie (Cris) Kalkman of Sioux City; grandchildren, Tricia (Rich) Hommer, Sheenan (Joanna) and Ashley Kalkman, Eric (Katie) and Nikki Davidson; great-grandchildren, Rachel and Jordan Hommer and Miriam Kalkman; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three brothers, Harold, Charlie and Harry; and a sister, Erma
