Jean L Nichols

SIOUX CITY - Jean L. Nichols, 90, a longtime resident of Sioux City, passed away Thursday, July 9, 2009, at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness.

A celebration of her life will be l p.m. Monday at Northpark Place Senior Living Community, 2562 Pierce St., with the Rev. Matthew Miller of First Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Graceland Park Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Jean was born Dec. 4, 1918, in Sioux City, the daughter of William and Gertrude (Carraher) Kegelmeyer. She graduated from Central High School in 1938. She attended Briar Cliff College prior to her marriage.

She was united in marriage to Elleroy C. Nichols on July 6, 1940. She assisted her husband at his CPA firm, Nichols, Rice and Co. He died March 8, 2003, in Sioux City.

She was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church, where she served as deaconess and belonged to the Presbyterian Women. She was a member of AC TTT and P.E.O. Chapter IL. She was a former member of the Sioux Delphian, Salvation Army Auxiliary and a past president of St. Luke's Auxiliary. She was a Girl Scout leader and a Cub Scout leader. She enjoyed reading, traveling, especially on cruises, and enjoyed their vacation home at Lake Okoboji.

She is survived by three children, Craig Nichols and his wife, Nancy of San Diego, Calif., Stuart Nichols and his wife, Karen of Jocotepec, Mexico, and Janet and her husband, Alex Perea of Estherville, Iowa; five grandchildren, Brian, Scott, Greg, Torrey and Ryan; two great-grandchildren, Devon and Brandon; a brother, William Kegelmeyer of Bullhead City, Ariz.; a brother-in-law, Philip Jorgensen; and two nephews, Roger and Chris of Des Moines.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and a sister, Ann Jorgensen
