DeWayne D Branssen

SIOUX CITY - DeWayne D. Brunssen, 68, of Sioux City passed away Friday, July 10, 2009, at a local hospital following a long illness.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Resurrection Lutheran Church in North Sioux City, with the Rev. Timothy Daene officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service in Sergeant Bluff.

DeWayne was born on Aug. 25, 1940, in Sioux City, the son of Frederick and Hazel (Gilson) Brunssen. He graduated from Central High School in 1959. On March 2, 1963, he was united in marriage to Karen Clift in North Sioux City.

DeWayne worked many years for the Sioux City Journal as a proofreader and a linotype machine operator. Later, he worked for the North Sioux City Post Office until retiring in 1996 due to health. He enjoyed stock car racing, playing bingo, fishing and camping.

DeWayne is survived by his wife, Karen; his mother, Hazel; four sons, Craig Clift and his wife, Alieca of South Sioux City, Bradley Brunssen and his wife, Jo Ann of Sioux City; Douglas Brunssen and his special friend, Cally of Westfield, Iowa, and Jeffrey Brunssen and his wife, Sonya of Le Mars, Iowa; a daughter, Cindy Clift of Sioux City; a brother, Dennis Brunssen of Phoenix, Ariz.; four sisters, Norma Brunssen, Darlene Dorr, Sharon and Mary; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father.
