Vera E Allner

SIOUX CITY - Vera E. Allner, 86, of Sioux City died Sunday, July 5, 2009, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 11 a. m. Wednesday, at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel, with the Rev. Valerie Heller of Grace United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyer-broschapels.com.

Vera was born Dec. 4, 1922, in Tyndall, S.D., the daughter of George A. and Johanna. (Hauck) Grimme. She attended one year of business school in Sioux City after graduating from high school.

She married Lawrence Allner in September 1945. The couple later divorced. She was employed with IPS, now MidAmerican Energy, in the treasury department for 28 years, retiring in 1986.

In her free time, she loved gardening, dancing and playing cards. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Senior Citizens Club and the Eagle's Club.

Survivors include a brother, Norman Grimme and his wife, Martha of Tyndall, S.D.; two sisters, Viola Adams of Sioux City and Wilma Garthright of Lincoln, Neb.; a sister-in-law, Violet Grimme of Mankato, Minn.; many nieces and nephews; several grandnieces and grand-nephews; and a special friend, Elmer "Pete" Pearson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Elvin and Eugene; a sister-in-law, Pat Grimme; a brother-in-law, Charles Garthright; and two infant siblings at birth.
