CORRECTIONVILLE, Iowa - Ray L. Miller, 88, of Correctionville died Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2008, in Correctionville.

The body was cremated. Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Grace United Methodist Church in Correctionville, with the Rev. Cheryl Ashley officiating. Burial will be in Correctionville Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyer-broschapels.

Ray was born June 27, 1920, in Correctionville, the son of Harvey and Blanch (Wenbourne) Miller. He grew up on the family farm and attended country school. He graduated from Correctionville High School in 1938 and received his normal school training. He taught country school until 1942, when he entered the U.S. Army. In October 1942, he sailed on the Queen Mary to Europe. For the next three years, he operated radar sites and participated in invasions and campaigns from North Africa through Europe, ending in Germany. He returned to Correctionville on Sept. 29, 1945.

He married Mary Jane Worthan on Feb. 7, 1942, in South Sioux City. They were married for 62 years. Mary Jane died Nov. 14, 2004, in Correctionville. He farmed the family farm from 1945 until moving into Correctionville in 1988.

He was baptized at the Rock Branch United Methodist Church and had been a member of Grace United Methodist Church since 1954. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1750 and a member of the American Legion Mumford-Moon Post 79. He enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include five children, Patricia Miller of Correctionville, Robert Miller and his wife, Candace of Correctionville, Charles Miller and his wife, Kristy of Moville, Iowa, Deborah and her husband, Ronald Bauder of South Sioux City and Steven Miller of Correctionville; a sister, Lorraine Roorda of Rock Valley, Iowa; 12 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary Jane; two sisters, Ruth Treptow and Joan Cameron; and an infant brother, Jacob.
