Kenneth A. Brown

SIOUX CITY - Kenneth A. Brown, 102, of Sioux City passed away on Wednesday, April 22, 2009, at a local nursing home.

Services will be 11:30 a.m. Monday at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel, 6200 Morningside Ave., with the Rev. Marvin Muller officiating. Burial will be in Galva Cemetery at Galva, Iowa. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Monday at the funeral home. Online condolences may be sent to www.meyer-broschapels.com.

Kenneth was born on Sept. 22, 1906, in Sac County, Iowa, to Leo and Maud (Calvert) Brown. He grew up in Galva. He then attended and graduated from Capital City Commercial College in Des Moines, and Gregg College of Court Reporting in Chicago, 111. He became a respected Certified Gregg Shorthand Court Reporter and in February 1930, was appointed Official Reporter of Iowa's First Judicial District (Keokuk, Fort Madison) until 1951, when he transferred to the Third Judicial District (Sioux City). He continued in this capacity until retiring in 1972, after 42 years of service.

Kenneth was a lifelong member of United Methodist Church and was a current member of St. James United Methodist Church in Sioux City.

Kenneth is survived by a daughter, Beverly (Don) Stout of Concord, Calif.; a son, Donald K. (Phyllis) Brown of Barberton, Ohio; grandchildren, Susan (Don) Kishton of Rootstown, Ohio, Karen Hutton of Areata, Calif., and Kathy (Kevin) Bennett of Pittsburg, Calif.; five greatgrandchildren; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Alice Carlson.

He was preceded in death by his first wife of 58 years, Josephine N. Brown; his second wife of five years, Lucille N. Brown; and a grandson, Douglas M. Brown.

Kenneth was a resident at Sunrise Retirement Community since 1987 until his passing. The family would like to thank the Sunrise staff for its personal help and services on his behalf over the years.
