SOUTH SIOUX CITY (Died Sioux City)- David E. Stenwall Sr., 68, of Rapid City, S.D., formerly of City, passed away following an 11-year battle with cancer Wednesday, April 22, 2009, at a Sioux City hospital with his family by his side.

Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Hope Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Randall Knuth officiating. There will be a lunch at the church for family and friends following the service. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are under the direction of Becker-Hunt Funeral Home.

David Eugene Stenwall was born Aug. 15, 1940, in rural Allen, Neb., the son of Lenius J. "Lee" and Elsie I. (Edler) Stenwall. He graduated from Waterbury (Neb.) High School in 1958. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War.

He married Judy K. Elliott on June 6, 1969, in Ponca, Neb. He was a commercial driver for Super Value for many years, Keebler and drove for Don Caskey of Akron, Iowa, for many years. He and his wife owned and operated a package liquor store and restaurant in Winner, S.D. The couple also owned and operated the Dairy Dandy in South Sioux City for several years in the 1980s. After his retirement, the couple traveled the last couple of years.

He was a member of Hope Lutheran Church. He loved camping, traveling and volunteering at different campgrounds. He was a wonderful friend to everyone.

Survivors include his wife, Judy; two sons, Steven M. and his wife, Dottie of Millington, Tenn., and David E. Jr. of Salix, Iowa; two daughters, Dyonnie Minier and Shauna Stenwall, both of Yakima, Wash.; two sisters, Carol Valvo of Westminster, Colo., and Evelyn Heber of Denver, . Colo.; and 10 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; and a sister.
