Correctionville Loses Oldest Resident

On Saturday morning, February 3, 1990, Correctionville lost its eldest resident, Mrs. Naemie (Amie) Frederika Casey, 101. Amie had resided at Colonial Manor since 1986.

Services were at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 6, in the Correctionville Church of Christ with Pastors Duane King and Mike Stair officiating. Burial was in Correctionville Cemetery. Visitation was held at Barker Funeral Home in Correctionville. Pallbearers were grandsons: Brad Smith, Allen Casey, Don Casey, Andrew Casey, John Warren Casey, Phil Casey, and Terry Casey and Chuck Casey in absence.

Wilma Brown and Esther Heath were in charge of the flowers. Richard Cockburn arranged the cars. Music was provided for by pianist, Wren Smith and vocalist, Mrs. Duane (Peggy) King. Music selections were "Beyond the Sunset'', which was beautifully signed for the deaf, and "Where the Roses Never Fade", an old hymn Amie requested. Congregational singing selections were "Great Is Thy Faithfulness", "Because He Lives", and "When We All Get to Heaven."

Mrs. Casey, the former Naemie Frederika Tuschoff, was born on April 3,1888, at Walnut, Iowa, the eldest daughter of Karl and Louisa (Ebsen) Tuschoff. In 1894, the family moved to Ida County around the Holstein area. In 1905, the family moved to Woodbury County, near Correctionville, where they remained. On September 18, 1912, she married Charles Casey at the Ida County courthouse. The couple farmed near the Correctionville area before retiring to town. She was baptized into Christ during September, 1920. Amie was a charter member of the Church of Christ in Correctionville. She was very active in the church and helped many Bible college students and missionaries through the years, spiritually as well as financially. He home was always open to anyone needing shelter.

Survivors include her sons, Roger of Storm Lake, Iowa; Russell of Sapulpa, Oklahoma; Jim of Correctionville, Iowa; and John Casey of Seattle, Washington; her grandchildren, Brad Smith, Gloria Apfel, Don Casey, Cheryl Sue Little, Chuck Casey, Phil Casey, Sharon Pohlman, John Warren Casey, Terry Casey, Allen Casey, and Andrew Casey; 27 greatgrandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters, Minnie Riemers, Laura Blaue, Rose Lundburg, and Ethel Reyman; her brothers, Christian and Anthony Tuschoff; her husband, Charles; two daughters, Aletha Smith and Lura Reyman; and one grandson, David Casey.

Because of her warm hospitality, she will be greatly missed by a host of friends and relatives.
