SIOUX CITY -- Viola M. (Kolls) Meier, 89, of Sioux City passed away Monday, April 20, 2009, at a local nursing home.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with Monsignor Roger Augustine officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Viola was born Feb. 15, 1920, in Hartington, Neb., to George and Mary (Biernbaum) Haberer. She grew up in the Crofton, Neb., area, where she attended school.

She married Herman Kolls on Oct. 9, 1943, in Crofton. The couple moved to Sioux City in 1947. They later moved to a farm just south of Sioux City, where they farmed and she cleaned houses until 1972. They them moved to the Riverside area. Herman passed away on July 22, 1982.

She later married Raymond T. Meier on Oct. 29, 1983 in Sioux City. The couple enjoyed going to the Senior Center.

She was a very good mother, grandmother and always got a kick out of the great-grandchildren. She loved cooking, playing cards, embroidering, listening to country music and gardening.

Survivors include her three children, James Kolls and his wife, Sandra of Sioux City, Robert Kolls and his wife, Penny of Kearney, Neb., and Mary Ann and her husband, Wayne Peter of Omaha; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Clara Haberer of Crofton; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Herman Kolls; her second husband, Raymond Meier; two sisters, Victoria Hendricks and Veronica McCabe; and two brothers, Harold and Arnold Haberer.

Pallbearers will be Tim Kolls, Nick Svendsen, Nathan Keleher, Josh Kolls, David Peter and Richard Peter. Honorary pallbearers will be Josh Graham, Austin Svendsen, Bruce Collins, Robert Painter and Chris Miller.
