SIOUX CITY -- Harry F. Johnson Jr., formerly of Sioux City, passed away Friday, March 6, 2009, at Avalon Care Center in Spokane, Wash., following a brief illness.

Graveside services will be noon Friday, April 17, in Graceland Park Cemetery, Sioux City, with the Rev. Merrill Muller officiating. Military rites will be conducted.

Harry Jr. was born Nov. 22, 1921, in Sioux City, the son of Harry F. Sr. and Florence (Nielson) Johnson. He attended Central High School, graduating in 1940. In high school, he was involved in basketball, opera, orchestra and band and was a drum major, instrumental soloist (trumpet), in brass quartet and treasurer of the German Club. After high school, he worked in sales. He owned and operated a diner in Sioux Falls, S.D. Later, he drove local and over-the-road truck. He was previously married to Mildred Milton.

He enjoyed cooking and traveling.

He is survived by a son and his wife, Jamie and Cherle Johnson; and a cousin, Pauline Whitmore.

He was preceded in death by his father, Harry F. Johnson Sr.; his mother, Florence N. Johnson; and a brother, Robert P. Johnson
