Page 15K. B. White Ex-Builder, Dies at Home
K.B.White, 81, 2112 S. St. Aubin St, longtime city building inspector and former general contractor, died Thursday at his home after a long illness. He was known for building the Sioux City bandshell and other landmarks.
Mr. White was born May 17, 1885, in Rexburry, Mass., lived in Boston during his youth and graduated from the University of Illinois at Champaign in structural engineer.
He came to Sioux City in 1919 to supervise construction of Midland Plant, now the Swift & Co, plant. He stayed in Sioux City the remainder of his life.
He had his own construction company, the K. B. White Co. He built the War Eagle Building, the Metropolitan Insurance Building, the Morningside Masonic Lodge, Sioux City Bandshell, and many others.
He later became city assistant building inspector, and then was building inspector for about 25 years until he retired.
He married Euphemia Kiddie in Chicago, June 3, 1915. She died Dec. 27, 1929, in Sioux City. He married Genevieve Jenkinson June 5, 1943 at Des Moines.
He was a member of the Morningside Presbyterian Church, Downtown Kiwanis Club, Sioux City Engineers Club, Morningside Masonic Lodge 615, Sioux City Consistory, Abu Bekr Shrine Temple, and Morningside Chapter, Order of Eastern Star.
Survivors include the widow; four daughters, Mrs. Marilynn Larson of Sioux City, Mrs. Frances Cullen of South San Fransisco, Calf., Mrs. Ruth Montgomery of Santa Barbara, Calf., and Mrs. Jacquelin Nagel of Anaheim, Calif.; a sister, Mrs. Frances Hagen, of Saratoga, Calif.; a brother, Philip B. White of Kenmore, NY; 17 grandchildren, and four great grandchildren.
The body was taken to W. Harry Christy Funeral Home in Morningside.
