4 April 2009SIOUX CITY -- Donald S. "Bill" Minton, 94, of Sioux City died Tuesday, March 31, 2009, at Countryside Retirement Home after a short illness.
Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel with the Rev. Valerie Heller officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with military rites by the Iowa Army National Guard. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday with the family present and a prayer service at 7 p.m. Condolences may be directed to meyerbroschapels.com.
Donald was born Feb. 13, 1915 in Granite Falls, Minn., the son of William C. and Ida J. (Norby) Minton. At the age of 3, he moved with his family to Clarkfield, Minn. Two years later, they moved to Mellette, S.D., then to Mitchell, S.D., for 12 years. He lived in Sioux Falls, S.D., for two years before relocating to Sioux City in 1939.
He enlisted with the U.S. Army Air Force in 1942 and served during World War II until 1946. On March 7, 1944, he married Evelyn S. "Sherry" Sherwood in Sioux City. The couple made their home in Sioux City where Donald worked in pharmaceutical sales for McKesson & Robbins Inc. until he retired in 1976. Sherry died Dec. 29, 1993 in Sioux City.
"Bill" was a member of Graced United Methodist Church and Moose Lodge 752.
In earlier years, Bill and his wife enjoyed bowling and playing cards. He was active in various activities at the Siouxland Senior Center, especially dancing and playing pool.
He is survived by three nephews, Robert Livingston of Naples, Fla., Earl McGee of Grand Bend, Kan., and David McGee of Mitchell, S.D.; two nieces, Sharon (Marlin) Eden of Lena, Ill., and Linda (Carl) Kaup of Clinton, Iowa; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two brothers, Omer and Harland Minton and two sisters, Inez McGee and Iola Carlson.
