SIOUX CITY -- Mildred E. "Millie" Johns, 84, of Sioux City passed away Wednesday, April 1, 2009, at a Sioux City hospital.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Wesley United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Merrill Muller officiating. Burial will be in Arlington Cemetery at Moville, Iowa, at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Online condolences may be sent to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Millie was born Tuesday, May 6, 1924, to Odin and Louise (Thompson) Peterson in Kennebec, S.D. She grew up near Kennebec and Presho, S.D. She married Clayton F. Johns on Nov. 18, 1944, in Sioux City. Clayton passed away Sept. 25, 1992 in Sioux City.

Millie worked as a housekeeper for St. Luke's Hospital in Sioux City for many years. Some of her favorite pastimes were playing bingo and cards, going to the boat, watching Wheel of Fortune and flower gardening. Her number one love was her family.

Millie attended Wesley United Methodist Church.

Survivors include three sons, Larry (Celestina) Johns of Sioux City, Don (Mary) Johns of Columbus, Neb., and Lonnie (Cynthia) Johns of Sergeant Bluff; four daughters, Karen Neuhalfen of Lincoln, Neb., Marilyn (Robert) Harding of Westfield, Iowa, Nancy Kahl and her fiance, Jerry Vanderham of Westfield and Deborah (Russell) Edwards of Sioux City; as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a brother; a sister; and a grandson, Kyle Neuhalfen.
