SIOUX CITY -- Alice M. VaDeer, 85, of Sioux City passed away Tuesday, March 24, 2009, at her residence.

Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Monday in Memorial Park Cemetery, with Pastor Dick Morgan of the Sioux City Gospel Mission officiating. No visitation is scheduled. Alice Mona Aspleaf was born Feb. 20, 1924, to Alfe Gustaf and Mertle Lanora (Floyd) Aspleaf in Lyons, Neb. When Alice was at a young age, the family moved to Sioux City. She attended school at Lowell, Woodrow Wilson and graduated from Central High School with the class of 1942.

Alice met and married Donald K. Moore. To this union two children were born, Donald Jr. and Lynda. She later met and married Harold L. VaDeer and had two additional children, Allan and Terry. Alice worked at Wincharger, the Battery Company, managed the food counter and banquet service at the opening of the YMCA and worked 10 years for My Favorite Cleaners.

She was a member of the Gospel Mission for 32 years and spent 15 years as treasurer of the Ladies Auxiliary. Alice enjoyed crafts and collected dolls and angels. Her true love was her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Alice is survived by sons, Donald K. Moore of Anaheim, Calif., and Terry and wife, Sandi VaDeer of Dows, Iowa; a daughter, Lynda and husband, James Rosenmerkel of Columbia, Md.; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; sisters, Esther and husband, Kenny Porter of Sioux City, and Maye Crosby of California; a sister-in-law, Beverly Aspleaf of Sioux City; a brother-in-law, Paul VanderHam of Merrill, Iowa; a daughter-in-law, Loraine and husband, Garry Johnson of Omaha; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Donald Moore and Harold VaDeer; a son, Allan "Bud" VaDeer; sisters, Mary Prestige and Frances VanderHam; brothers, Lloyd William Aspleaf, Alvin Earl Aspleaf, Robert Aspleaf and three brothers in infancy; and a brother-in-law, Harry Crosby.
