12 March 2009SIOUX CITY -- Genevieve Parish, 99, of Sioux City died Saturday, March 7, 2009, at a local rehab center.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Alva F. Hohl Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Friday at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.
While attending school Jenny raised her younger sister, Jean Brandt-Kregness. Upon first entering the work force with a career in business, she also assisted in sending her younger sister to Briar Cliff College.
In 1934, she married her loving husband of 34 happy years, Joseph M. Parish.
She was an active member of her church and community. She was admired for her interest in others and her beautiful disposition, She was an artist, skilled knitter and needle worker and an avid reader. She also baby-sat many children in her neighborhood. Moreover, she was a good friend to many.
In her later years, she continued to share a kind word and gentle prayer with her many friends at Northern Hills Independent Living in Sioux City, where she happily and actively lived until her last weeks.
Survivors include a sister, Regenia G. Brandt-Kregness of Denison, Iowa; nieces and nephews, Lisa Kregness, Julie Kregness-Thorsen, James W. Kregness, Richard and Juanita Smith; friends, Linda McMahan; and the residents and staff at Northern Hills Retirement Community.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph M. Parish; parents, Edward and Goldie A. Elsey-Brandt; and a stepsister, Marion Smith.
