SIOUX CITY -- Donald E. Thompson, 85, of Sioux City passed away Saturday, March 7, 2009, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Mohr Funeral Home, South Sioux City. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery, Randolph, Neb. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today at Waterbury Funeral Service in Sergeant Bluff. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to the service Wednesday at Mohr Funeral Home. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service.

Donald Edwin Thompson was born Aug. 18, 1923, in Sioux City, to Thomas and Jessie (McMullan) Thompson. He was drafted into the U.S. Army during World War II in December 1942. He was stationed in the Pacific Theater.

On May 9, 1941, he was united in marriage to Romelda Rohloff, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Rohloff, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Belden, Neb. He worked for 44 years at Metz Baking, then 28 years with Wells Fargo.

Survivors include his wife, Romelda Rohloff-Thompson; two daughters, Vicki and her husband, Wayne Vala, and Janice Thompson; a son, Jerry Thompson; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a special niece, Sherry Britton of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and his beloved dog, Rowdy-Man.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father; and a sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Bob Teachout.
