24 February 2009PIERSON, Iowa -- Emma Hodge, 84, of New Brighton, Minn., formerly of Pierson, passed away Saturday, Feb. 21, 2009.
Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Meadow Star United Methodist Church in rural Washta, Iowa, with the Rev. Bill Cotten officiating. Burial will be in Grand Meadow Cemetery. There will be a family prayer service at 9:45 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Visitation will be 1 to 9 p.m. today, with the family present 6:30 to 8 p.m., at Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa.
Emma was born May 13, 1924, in Schleswig, Iowa, to Herman and Marie (Bohrnsen) Petersen. She attended school in the Schleswig area.
She was married to Marlin R. Hodge on April 6, 1947, in Marshalltown, Iowa. She had worked in the telephone office in Pierson for several years and had been a homemaker. She had been a resident of Pierson until 2004, when she moved to New Brighton, Minn., to live with her daughter and son-in-law.
She was a member of Meadow Star United Methodist Church. She belonged to the Siouxland Mended Hearts and the Senior Congregate Meals. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, needlepoint, sewing, cross-stitch and trivia.
She is survived by three children, Joyce and her husband, John Gokey, of New Brighton, Minn., Dean Hodge and his wife, Pam Schilling, of Little Falls, Minn., and Colleen Hodge of Kimberling City, Mo.; three grandchildren, Thomas Gokey and his wife, Margaret Backus, Peter Gokey and his wife, Terrilyn, and Elizabeth Gokey; two stepgrandchildren; four great-stepgrandchildren; two sisters, Helen Hodge of Washta, Iowa, and Garnet Hegre of Grovetown, Ga.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepfather, Herman Delfskamp; her husband, Marlin Hodge on Nov. 14, 1998; and two brothers-in-law, Paul Hodge and Glenn Hegre.
