SIOUX CITY -- Rita Stone, 82, of Sioux City died Sunday, Feb. 22, 2009, at Sunrise Retirement Community.

Services will be 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. John's Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Greg Hanneman officiating. Following the service Wednesday, the body will be cremated. Graveside services will be 2:30 p.m. Thursday in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 10 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Rita was born Jan. 29, 1927, in Sioux City, the daughter of Arthur A. and Lenora Claire (Flynn) Johnson. She attended Sioux City schools.

She was married to Ronald Stone on Nov. 20, 1945, in Sioux City. He preceded her in death on Jan. 10, 2004, in Sioux Falls, S.D. She was a homemaker while raising her children. After her children were grown and gone, she was a bookkeeper at Kresges. After retiring from Kresges, she worked part-time at Peoples Department Store.

She loved music, family and gardening. She also enjoyed crocheting, embroidering and sewing. She was a life time member of St. John's Lutheran Church, where she was a member of the church choir and the women's circle. She also was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Survivors include three children, Edward (Joyce) Stone of South Sioux City, Susan (John) Lykken of Rapid City, S.D., and Calvin (Julie) Stone of Sterling, Va.; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Alice Johnson of Mountain Home, Ark.; and a brother, Creighton Johnson of Tampa, Fla.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter; two brothers; and a sister.

Memorials may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church, Sunrise Retirement Community or Hospice of Siouxland.
