SIOUX CITY -- John Henry Knight, 82, of Knoxville, Tenn., former Sioux City resident, died Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2009, in Knoxville.

Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Grace United Methodist Church, with Pastor Valerie Heller officiating. Burial of the ashes will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, with a 7 p.m. Masonic service, at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. Online condolences may be sent to www.christysmith.com.

John was born Dec. 27, 1926, in Sioux City, the son of Henry and Rose (Dillion) Knight. He was raised in Sioux City and graduated from East High School and Morningside College.

On Nov. 30, 1957, he married JoAnn Kuhler in Sioux City. She died on Sept. 4, 1997, in Sioux City. John worked for the Siouxland Conservation Service from 1948 to 1985 and Siouxland Engineering Associates from 1985 until he retired in 1996.

He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and the Morningside Masonic Lodge 615, where he was a past master and past patron. He was a member of the Scottish and York Rites. He was also a member of the Abu Bekr Shine. He also worked with the Morningside Eastern Star 502.

John is survived by two sons and their wives, Ken and Tammy of Knoxville, Tenn., and Keith and Kathy of Orange, Calif.; a daughter, Jean Hansen of Knoxville; six grandchildren, Casondra, Michael, Brian, Kevin, Jenny and Cody; and a brother-in-law, Jim and Feli Kuhler.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
