SIOUX CITY -- James D. "Jim" McCorkindale, 81, formerly of Sioux City, passed away Jan. 8, 2009, in Omaha after a six-month battle with lung cancer.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Sioux City. Interment will be in St. Thomas Church Columbarium.

Jim was born Nov. 26, 1927, in Green Bay, Wis., to William A. and Lucy (Ford) McCorkindale. He was raised in Sioux City and graduated from Central High School in 1945. After serving in the U.S. Army, he graduated from Iowa State University in 1950 with a degree in technical journalism.

Jim made his career in advertising and marketing. He retired in 1991 as Chief, Advertising and Public Affairs, U.S. Army Omaha Recruiting Battalion.

He was an avid reader and cartoon artist. He loved to entertain family and friends. Over the years, Jim was active in many service and social organizations. He was a member of the Shrine Tyrian Lodge and Abu Bekr Shrine Oriental Band in Sioux City, the Tangier Oriental Band in Fremont, Neb., the V.F.W. and the American Legion. He was Exalted Ruler of the Sioux City Elks Lodge 112 in 1976 to 1977, and remained active in the PER Association, Omaha Lodge 39.

Survivors include a daughter, Mary Beth Presnell of Sioux City; a son, Scott McCorkindale and his wife, Linda of Montclair, Va.; a grandson, Dan Burns and his wife, Jen of Cambridge, Mass.; and his beloved friend, Carol Bridges of Omaha.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Tom McCorkindale, and grandson, Jared Burns.
