19 February 2009SIOUX CITY -- Rodney J. Maxwell, 66, formerly library director of the Sioux City Public Library and chief financial officer for several photocopying companies in Florida, California and Massachusetts, died Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2009, following a lengthy illness.
Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Kehilath Israel Blue Ridge Cemetery Chapel in Independence, Mo. Burial will be in Kehilath Israel Blue Ridge Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Louis Memorial Chapel in Kansas City, Mo. Condolences may be sent online to www.louismemorialchapel.com.
Maxwell earned a bachelor's degree in English in 1972 and a master's degree in library science in 1973 from the State University of New York, Albany. He worked for the Sioux City Public Library following graduation and was named library director in 1975.
Originally from Schenectady, N.Y., he was the son of Arthur V. Maxwell Sr. and Grace (Fraleigh) Maxwell. He moved to the Boston, Mass., area in 1980, where he founded a library services company. When the company was sold, he was asked to continue as the new firm's chief financial officer, which he did for many years thereafter. Until his death, he worked as a financial consultant for several companies.
He married Nancy (Kalikow) Maxwell of Davie, Fla., in 1984. He leaves a daughter, Amanda Maxwell, a musical theater student at the University of Central Florida in Orlando; sons, Scott Maxwell of Hubbardston, Mass., Marc Maxwell and Jeffrey Maxwell, both of Port St. Lucie, Fla., and their wives and children; and sisters and a brother-in-law, Elaine and Richard Miller of Charlottesville, Va., and Phyllis Pidgeon of Pompano Beach, Fla.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Arthur V. Maxwell Jr.; and a sister, Debra Adamoski.
