15 February 2009OTO, Iowa -- Dale Timmerman, surrounded by the love of his family, returned home to the Lord Feb. 11, 2009. We were blessed to have had him for 89 years.
Born in Oto, IA Oct. 4, 1919 to Herman F. and Arminda P. Timmerman, Dale rarely strayed far from home save the proud service to his country during WWII. Dale enlisted in February of 1941 joining first the 133 Anti Tank Company and later transferring to the 168th Anti Tank Company, The Red Bulls. It was during his training in Glasgow, Scotland that Dale met his future bride, Nan McNamara. They would pen a romance for nearly four years, 27 months of which he was a POW in Germany. After his liberation, Dale proposed and subsequently sent for his future bride. They were married on July 14, 1946.
Dale and Nan spent many happy years farming, raising registered Polled Hereford cattle and operating Timmerman Fertilizer.
Dale loved his family, country, farming, fishing, traveling, dancing, playing cards and living life. His gentle nature, sense of humor and large stature made him a pleasure to all who knew him. He will be greatly missed.
Those survivors fortunate enough to cherish his memories include: daughter Sharon Henning of Omaha, NE, son Scott Timmerman of Oto, IA, brother-in-law Michael McNamara, sister-in-law Mary Lee, four grandchildren, Heather Lyions and husband Leonard of Wolbach, NE, Michelle Henning of Jersey City NJ, Jennifer Hanson and husband Matt of Omaha, NE, Travis Henning of Minneapolis, MN, and three great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his wife, mother and father and cherished friends.
Celebration of Life Services will be March 7 at 2:00 P.M. at the United Church of Christ, Oto, IA. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service in Sergeant Bluff.
