LAWTON, Iowa -- Glovana Marie "Glo" Happel, 89, of Lawton died Sunday, Feb. 1, 2009, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Moville, Iowa, with the Rev. James Berka officiating. Burial will be in Arlington Township Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. today at McCulloch Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home in Moville. Condolences may be sent online to www.christysmith.com.

Glovana "Glo" was born March 3, 1919, in Wayne, Neb., the daughter of Harry and Juanita (Brink) Bennett. She attended District 34 Country School near Wayne before attending Wayne High School. She moved to Kansas City, Mo., where she was a nanny for prominent families for several years.

She married Robert "Bob" Happel on Aug. 25, 1938, in Marionville, Mo. They lived in Dakota City, Sergeant Bluff, Merrill, Iowa, and for many years in Allen, Neb., where they were members of First Lutheran Church, the Neighborhood Club and the Farm Bureau. They moved to Moville in August 1956. In 2002, the couple moved to Char-Mac Assisted Living. They really loved the friendship and staff there. Bob died Sept. 9, 2005.

She was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She also was a member of the Moville Senior Center, the Women's Club, Garden Club and the Meadows Golf Course. She enjoyed fishing, sewing, gardening and golf. Their home was always open, with the coffee pot on, for their many friends and family.

Survivors include two daughters, Gloria and Jim Bergherr of Alexandria, Minn., and Jan and John Harris of Monument, Colo.; a son, Jerald and Sherri Happel of Westminster, Colo.; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert "Bob" Happel; a granddaughter, Wendy Rumohr; four brothers, Grover, Earl, Ferris and Herman Bennett; and a son-in-law, Daryl Rumohr.
