SIOUX CITY -- Donald A. Fillaus, 85, of Sioux City died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2009, at a Sioux City hospital following a lengthy illness.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Boniface Catholic Church, with the Rev. James Bruch officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Donald A. Fillaus was born Feb. 26, 1923, in Dante, S.D., the son of Joseph F. and Louise (Trantina) Fillaus. He graduated from high school in Wagner, S.D. He was drafted into the U.S. Army and served during World War II. He later re-enlisted in the U.S. Army to serve during the Korean Conflict.

He was married to Mary Jane Owens on April 9, 1969, in Omaha. He worked for the Milwaukee Railroad as a telegrapher for 20 years. He later worked for the U.S. Post Office as a clerk for 22 years, retiring in 1985.

In his younger years, he enjoyed bowling and golfing. He also enjoyed working in his yard. He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, the Boys of 68 and the American Legion.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Fillaus of Sioux City; sisters-in-law, Clara Fillaus of Avon, S.D., Agnes Fillaus of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Wanda Hamsa of Omaha; and his cat, Callie.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Clayton and Robert; and a sister, Deloris Peshek.
