McCOOK LAKE, S.D. -- Beverly Anne Towler of McCook Lake passed away Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2009, at Sunrise Retirement Community in Sioux City surrounded by her family.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Morningside Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Don Botic officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Friday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.

Beverly was born Sept. 26, 1924, in Sioux City, to Philip and Bernice (Ruring) Johnson. She was a lifelong resident of the Siouxland area. She attended Sioux City schools and graduated from Sioux City East High School in 1942.

On Dec. 22, 1944, she married her high school sweetheart, Robert Upton Towler, at First Presbyterian Church in Klamath Falls, Ore. She was a homemaker.

She was a member of Morningside Presbyterian Church. She and her husband belonged to the Crystal Rhythm Dance Club. She devoted her life to her family. She so enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed knitting, flowers, working in her yard, dancing and family gatherings at her home on the lake.

Survivors include her daughter, Roberta and Larry Severeide of Sioux City; a son, James and Julie Towler of Dakota Dunes, S.D.; eight grandchildren, Stacy and Shane Madison of Des Moines, Stephanie and Chris Groves of Sergeant Bluff, Shane and Megan Severeide of Sioux City, Shelli and Jeff Jepsen of Sioux City, Scott and Ivy Towler of Coralville, Iowa, Lisa and Jerry Peterson of Sioux City, Rob and Katie Towler of Sioux City and Jordan Rae Towler of McCook Lake; 15 great-grandchildren, Maggie, Will, Graham and Cade Towler, Jack, Sam and Hollie Peterson, Ben Towler, Michael and Sarah Madison, Ashlyn and Conner Groves, Guy Severeide and Ella and Cal Jepsen; a brother, William E. Johnson of Dakota Dunes, S.D.; and a brother-in-law, Oscar and Emilie Towler Jr. of Nashville, Tenn.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert in 1978; a son, John Robert Towler in 2001; a sister, Margine Blanks; and a great-granddaughter, Carleigh Lynn Jepsen.

Pallbearers will be Scott Towler, Rob Towler, Jerry Peterson, Shane Severeide, Shane Madison, Chris Groves and Jeff Jepsen.
