Robert “Bob” Sulsberger, 76, of Smithland, Iowa, passed away Friday, May 15, 2020 at UnityPoint Health- St. Luke’s, Sioux City, Iowa.

Memorial Services will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service, Onawa, Iowa.

Bob was born July 28, 1943, in Hornick, Iowa, the son of Donald Dale and Betty Jean (Fowler) Sulsberger. He grew up near Smithland and graduated from Smithland Highschool in 1961. He served in the United States Army from 1961 until his honorable discharge in 1964.

Bob and Linda Kay Mead were united in marriage on August 13, 1966 in Elk Point, South Dakota. Bob always said “that’s when I made Linda the luckiest woman alive”. To this union three children were born, David, Donald, and Jonessa.

He farmed several years and also drove semi truck. He worked for LA Carlson Construction Company based out of Merrill, Iowa since 1990. Bob operated heavy equipment, completing numerous dirt working projects over the years. His favorite piece of equipment was the backhoe.

He cherished time spent with all of his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Bob also enjoyed hanging out and socializing with all the guys at the Country Store or having a beer.

Survivors include his loving wife of fifty-three years, Linda Sulsberger of Smithland, Iowa; his children, David (JoAnn Bockelmann) Sulsberger of Smithland, Iowa, Donald (Krista) Sulsberger of Smithland, Iowa, and Jonessa (Sahin) Yanik of Porter Ranch, California; grandchildren, Jordan (Seth) Robinson, Krista, Chyanne, Derrick, and Alabama Sulsberger, and Braxon Yanik; great-grandchildren, Talan, Teegan, Nyle, and Sutton; and several other relatives and good friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Betty (Fowler) Sulsberger; and one brother, Ed Sulsberger.
