SERGEANT BLUFF -- Stuart R. Smith, 43, of Sergeant Bluff died Monday, Jan. 19, 2009, at a Sioux City hospital.

Private family services will be held at a later date. Abiding by his wishes, the body has been cremated. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service in Sergeant Bluff.

Stuart was born Jan. 6, 1966, in Sioux City, the son of Robert and Carolyn (Baker) Smith. He attended Sergeant Bluff-Luton Schools.

He worked for various Siouxland companies throughout his life including, Sioux City Brick and Tile, Sioux City Foundry and Design Homes in Salix, Iowa, but was unable to work in later years due to ill health.

Survivors include his mother, Carolyn of Sergeant Bluff; a brother and his wife, Will and Dee Smith of Biloxi, Miss.; and a sister, Jeni Smith of Sioux City.

He was preceded in death by his father; and grandparents.

The family would like to thank the staff at St. Luke's Regional Medical Center and Hospice of Siouxland for their care and compassion.
