SIOUX CITY -- Marcie L. Sidie, 37, of Sioux City died Monday, Jan. 5, 2009, at a Sioux City hospital.

Abiding by her wishes, cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Friday at the funeral home.

Marcie was born in Sioux City on Oct. 21, 1971, the daughter of Ronald and JoAnn Sidie. She was raised in Sioux City and graduated from East High School. She studied linguistics at the University of Andres Bello in Caracas, Venezuela, then graduated from the University of South Dakota in 1995, with a degree in secondary education, English and Spanish. She then earned her master's degree in the science of education from Southwest Minnesota State University.

She taught high school Spanish at Dakota Valley School District for 13 years and was Teacher of the Year in 2004. She also taught for the Sioux City School District in a summer program and taught math and reading at Sylvan Learning Center.

She was united in marriage to her husband, Terry, in 2000. To this union son, Iain Jem, was born. She also has two stepchildren, Holly and Kenneth, who live in Santiago, Chile.

She was a WTF fourth degree black belt, USTU certified referee and an ATF certified instructor. She also was a five time junior national medalist and a four time Midwest grand champion. She was one of the first females to play Little League baseball in Sioux City and to hit a home run over the fence. She also was on an all star team for four years.

She and her family loved to travel, especially to visit national parks in the southwest. They also enjoyed traveling to foreign countries for new and unique experiences.

She is also survived by a brother, Marc; nephews, Blake and Wade; and grandfather, Royal.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
