Eleanor preceded him in death in September 1974. Following the death of Eleanor, he married Caroline F. Williams. He retired after 32 years of service from the USDA on Jan. 17, 1981 and relocated to Harlingen, Texas. Following the death of Caroline in 2006, he moved to Oregon to be closer to his daughter, Marie.

During his retirement years, he enjoyed bowling, golfing, cribbage, bingo, jigsaw puzzles and taking care of his cat, Mom.

He is survived by three children, Patricia Lockwood of Glenwood, Iowa, Marie Lockwood of Selma, Ore., and James Lockwood of Sioux City; a sister, Catherine Polley of Thousand Oaks, Calif.; and four stepchildren, Monte Williams of South Elgin, Ill., Gina Statsky of Corpus Christi, Texas, Donna Williams of Rancho Cordova, Calif., and Frank Williams of Edmond, Okla.
