Charlie Cassady Is Dead

WELL KNOWN PIONEER OF THE WHITING VICNITY SUBCUMBS IN S. C. HOSPITAL

Was a Brother of That Well Known Pioneer Business Man "Mike" Cassady—Funeral was Held From his Home in South Sioux City—Burial at Graceland Cemetery.

Charles M. Cassady, one of Monona County's pioneer citizens, died in a hospital in Sioux City August 8, 1931.

Charlie, as everyone called him was classed with the early settlers of the county. True, he was but a small boy when he came here, but for a great many years, he gave of his life to the active, industries of Monona County. Charlie was not a spectacular man, but a man of sterling integrity, A loving husband, the father of a worthy and respected family.

He was born at Painesville, O., on April 2, 1860 and passed away August 8, 1931, aged 71 years, and four months.

He was the son of Michael and Julia Fosmeyer Cassady.

His father died in Omio when he was four years of age.. Four years later he accompanied his elder brother, Mike, to Iowa. A short time was spent in Fremont County, with another brother, James, when it was decided to locate in Whiting. He accompanied his brother Mike to Whiting, driving stock much of the way. His mother and three sisters joined them and all of the rest of his childhood and his young manhood were spent in or near Whiting.

Changes for an education were meagre in those early days but he made good use of all that were available.

In 1891 he married Addie A. Baggs and to this union four children were born, two boys, Verne and Murray who died in childhood and two girls who survive him.

In 1903 he with his family moved to Nebraska and since that time they have lived in that state. Death came to him as a blessed release after several years of ill health and suffering.

He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Addie Cassady, and two daughter, Mrs. Homer Hill of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, and Mrs. William Cayle of Sioux City. Also the last surviving member of the Cassady family one sister, Mrs. W. A. Koon, of Sioux City, Iowa.

Funeral services were conducted in the Methodist Church of South Sioux City, conducted by the Rev. G. H. Croker of Whiting. Interment was in Graceland cemetery Sioux City. A goodly number of old neighbors and friends and relatives from Whiting attended the funeral services also a large number of his friends, neighbors and relatives from Sioux City and South Sioux City.
