Mother of Mrs. Brandid Dies
MRS. J. C. NOLAN AFTER SIX WEEKS ILLNESS IN THE HOME OF DAUGHTER PASSES AWAY

She Came to Iowa in 1882 and Was Born In Indiana In 1854 —She had Made Her Home at Smithland for a Long Number for Years—Funeral Held on Wednesday.

On last Monday afternoon at two o'clock July 20, 1931 occurred the death here of Mrs. John C. Nolan, a honor pioneer lady of the Little Sioux Valley. Some six weeks ago Mrs. Nolan was taken ill at her home at Smithland. She was at once brought by her daughter Mrs. John C. Brandin. to the Brandin home in this City. All through the weeks which have elapsed since her first sickness she has had the tender and loving care of her daughter who was joined a couple of weeks ago by another daughter of Mrs. Nolan who came from her home in Seattle.

Nothing that loving hands and kind deeds could do would stay off the call of her maker and she passed in death on last Monday.

Mrs. Nolan was well known by the Democrat editor. She was a good loveable Christian woman, a real mother and sturdy pioneer who in the early days had enjoyed the joys and sorrow of these pioneer days. Her complete faith was in God and in him she had put her trust she feared not death. Her husband departed this life on September 2nd, 1927. She stood this shook well and being of an independent nature she has kept her home in Smithland where she lived and enjoyed those surroundings which she so loved in the earlier days.

Mrs. Nolan was born in Lafayette, Indian in March 9th, 1854 and moved to Wisconsin 1 year later. She was married to John C. Nolan in October 24, 1872 and they moved to Iowa during the year of 1882.

To this union 5 children were born, Mrs. Anna Althoop of Seattle, Washington, Frances J. Nolan of Sioux City, Iowa, William W. Nolan of Rodney, Iowa, Mrs. Lillian Brandin of Onawa, Iowa and Vernon Nolan of Lincoln, Minnesota besides a number of grandchildren.

Funeral services were held from the Smithland Methodist Church on Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock July 22nd, 1931 with Rev. Mr. Stevens in charge. The funeral was under direction of the Barnard undertaking Parlors of Onawa.
