Gerald D. "Jerry" Foister, 60, Sioux-City, founder and owner of Jerry's Pizza, died unexpectedly Dec. 26, 1989 in a Sioux City hospital.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the First Assembly of God church in Sioux City. Rev. Phillip Parker officiated. Burial was in Memorial Park cemetery, under direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, Sioux City.
Mr. Foister opened his first pizza establishment, Morningside Pizza in 1959. Initially, he and his wife, Dene, used a shoe box for their cash register and rolled pizza dough on a card table. As Mr. Foister's four children joined their father in the family pizza business, it was expanded from its initial outlet in Morninside to include four other outlets. The name of the business also was changed to Jerry's Pizza.
Mr. Foister's sons, Mike and Terry, joined the family business first and later were joined by his daughters, Pam and Lori. The firm first expanded in 1980 to include a location at 38th St. and Hamilton Boulevard in Sioux City. In 1985, two additional facilities were opened, one in South Sioux City, and another in Le Mars. A fifth establishment was opened in 1987 at West Eighth St. and Hamilton Boulevard.
Mr. Foister was born June 18, 1929, in Sioux City, and graduated from Central high school. He married Ilene A. Aalseth Jan. 11, 1950 in Sioux City. He was a lifelong resident of Sioux City. He was a member of the First Assembly of God church.
Survivors include his wife, Ilene; two sons and two daughters-in-laws, Michael and Barb Foister and Terry and Diane Foister, all of Sioux City; two daughters and son-in-laws, Pam and Kevin Netley of Akron, and Lori and Paul Johnson of Sioux City; his mother, Mrs. Rosa Davis of Sioux
City; three sisters, and nine grandchildren, Michelle Foister, Robyn Foister, Allison Foister, Teri Lynn Foister, Michael Foister, K.J. Netley, Andrew Netley, Melissa Netley and Katie Netley.Akron Register Tribune
